Backpack Buddy Ministry

WTXY KOOL 103.9 FM & 1540 AM Supports Backpack Buddies

We support the Columbus County Baptist Association's Backpack Buddies Ministry.

Why Your Help is Needed

Without access to free or reduced school lunch, many children struggle with hunger over the weekend. For these children, the weekend is often viewed with anxiety and apprehension over what they will eat. Children who lack access to nutritious foods over the weekend then show up to school suffering from dizziness, nausea, and have difficulty concentrating. Behavioral issues often go hand in hand with these complaints. The Backpack Program was thus created to ensure our kids show up to school Monday morning happy, healthy, ready and able to learn.

Twenty-two million children receive free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program. For many of these children, school meals may be the only meals they eat. What happens when they go home over the weekend?  For many, there is nothing to eat.  That's where the Backpack Buddies Ministry can help these kids, so they have something nutritious to eat over the weekend.

Would You Like To Help?

You can help by purchasing & donate individual sized food items.  Individual items are appreciated, but cases of individual sized items would do the most help.  You can donate your items at any drop off location listed below.  There is also a monthly "Packing Party" where volunteers get together and pack the items for the kids.  For more information give the  CBA Office a call  910-642-2155
